One of only about 15,000 sold in the US, the 400E was the little brother to the cult classic 500E. It shares the same Porsche modified chassis & engine bay as the 500E, with a more economical 4.2L V8 M119 which produced nearly 280 HP new and was good for 0-60 in under 7 seconds, yet still capable of up to 25mpg highway. This engine is widely considered to be one of the best MBZ engines ever built, and certainly one of the great V8s of all time. A 700+hp version of the same engine won LeMans in 1989.
